Commercial robotic mowing on a completely different scale
The Segway Terranox CM240M1 is a commercial robotic mower designed for organisations responsible for large areas of maintained grass.
With mowing capacity of up to 24,000m², the CM240M1 allows sports clubs, schools, estates, contractors, local authorities and commercial sites to automate a substantial amount of routine grass cutting.
Rather than replacing one conventional mower with another, Terranox changes how the work is carried out. The mower can operate autonomously while grounds staff concentrate on skilled work elsewhere.
For sites where labour availability, fuel costs and mowing hours are becoming a problem, that can make Terranox a particularly attractive proposition.
Up to 24,000m² mowing capacity
The CM240M1 is the larger machine in the Terranox commercial range.
It can maintain areas of up to 24,000m², with Segway quoting a maximum-area mowing cycle of approximately 72 hours under its test conditions.
Meanwhile, its mowing speed reaches 1.0m/s, while the battery provides up to 180 minutes of operating time between charges.
This makes the CM240M1 suitable for large sites where conventional mowing can consume a significant number of staff hours every week.
No boundary wire and no local antenna
Terranox uses Segway's EFLS™ NRTK positioning system, combining Network RTK, 360° vision and Visual Inertial Odometry.
Therefore, there is no traditional perimeter wire to install around the mowing area.
Furthermore, where suitable Network RTK coverage is available, the system does not require a local RTK antenna.
This makes installation far less intrusive than many traditional robotic mowing systems. It also makes Terranox particularly interesting for large or complicated commercial sites.
AWD performance for difficult terrain
Commercial sites are rarely perfectly flat.
The Segway Terranox CM240M1 uses an all-wheel-drive system designed to work across demanding ground and slopes of up to 40 degrees, or 84%.
As a result, the machine can work on areas that would be unsuitable for many conventional robotic mowers.
That capability opens robotic mowing to embankments, rolling parkland, sports facilities and other sites where terrain has previously limited automation.
430mm commercial cutting system
Terranox uses dual cutting motors, twin cutting decks and 12 blades, with an overall cutting width of approximately 430mm.
Frequent autonomous mowing removes small amounts of grass at a time. Therefore, the turf can remain consistently maintained rather than moving through the usual cycle of growing long before being heavily cut back.
This approach can provide a particularly strong result on sports grounds, amenity grass and other areas where appearance matters.
Intelligent 360° obstacle detection
Large commercial sites are constantly changing.
People, equipment and other objects can appear within the mowing area throughout the day.
Terranox uses VisionFence™, combining a 360° RGB camera system with ToF sensing to detect and respond to obstacles.
This works alongside the mower's positioning technology to help it navigate complicated commercial environments.
Manage your mowing fleet remotely
For organisations operating several robotic mowers, Segway also offers NavimowFleet™.
The platform allows operators to monitor mower location, operating status, work progress and technical information remotely. Mowing schedules, cutting settings and maps can also be managed through the system.
Multiple machines can therefore be managed from a central platform rather than requiring staff to physically visit every mower.
Reduce mowing hours, not mowing standards
The real commercial argument for Terranox is not simply that it cuts grass without a driver.
It is the ability to move repetitive mowing hours away from skilled members of staff.
A grounds team can spend its time on presentation, maintenance, edging, pitch preparation and other jobs which still require a person, while Terranox deals with routine grass cutting.
For contractors, it can also create another option when quoting ongoing grounds-maintenance contracts.
Is Terranox right for your site?
Robotic mowing needs to be specified correctly.
At John Osman Groundcare, we can assess the area, terrain, mowing requirements and site layout before recommending a system.
We can also advise whether one CM240M1, several smaller robotic mowers, or a conventional machine would provide the better solution.
We have more than 40 years of experience in commercial groundcare machinery, so our approach is to recommend the correct equipment for the job rather than simply sell the machine.
Book a Terranox demonstration
If you are considering robotic mowing for a sports ground, school, estate, commercial site, park or other large grass area, speak to our team.
We can discuss your existing mowing operation, calculate the area involved and arrange a demonstration of the Segway Terranox commercial robotic mower range.
Contact John Osman Groundcare to arrange a site assessment or demonstration.
